Our costumes are reminiscent of the Victorian era at the turn of the century (1890s). Our design era is 1890 thru 1910. This reflects the time the Belleview Biltmore and the Tampa hotel were all the rage here on both sides of the bay! Your outfits could include an A-line skirt with a Gibson Girl top or a bustle dress, a ballroom dress, a parasol, a hat, or anything that tickles your fancy.
Selections should follow the guidelines set by the Costume Committee and must be approved by the Costume Committee chairperson in advance. Please address any questions about your costume to the Costume Committee or to the Standards Committee.
For the 2005/6 parade seaon, we have a costume closet with rentals on a first come, first served basis. If you don't have a costume or would like a change, you can always rent one from your own Krewe! For additional information, please contact the Costume Chairperson at KreweofSouthernSisterhood@yahoo.com
Also check out the Beads and Pearls page for info on how many and where to buy beads for parades.
Recommendations from the Krewe Costume Committee
When researching and planning your costume, keep our time frame, 1890- 1910, in mind.
 | | Hints for top of the head, day dresses require hats, evenings the ladies | | | adorned their hair with feathers, flowers, ribbons or jewels.
|
 | | Footwear varied from laced boots to day slippers, evening foot wear | | | was more elegant. Slippers to low heels, but keep comfort in mind. Besides parades, an evening at the ball standing or dancing in shoes that are not comfortable can make you grouchy! Find comfort then adorn for beauty.
