Building Our First Float With lots of help from family and friends, the Krewe undertook the big task of building a new float. In April 2004, the Krewe of Southern Sisterhood purchased a float from Krewe of Shamrock who had outgrown their original. The first task was to get the float from it's storage location out to our Float Chairperson's property in Pasco County where we'd have room to work. In August 2004, the first big Krewe effort was to tear down the old float. We had hoped to save some of the structure, but time and weather had pretty much eaten away much of the underlying wood. The Krewe had fun tearing down walls and workng with power tools. Click here for photos of work parties and painting parties. After much discussion, the Krewe settled on a design. Then we read the float design rules for the big parades and had to start over due to height and other restrictions. With help from Harlan, the ideas were turned into a construction plan.
suffered much tree loss, but the float stood up to 3 hurricans in 6 weeks. That was probably a pretty good test of its ability to stand up to Krewe members in 3 or 4 parades a year!
for all their hard work in helping the Krewe acheive their goal of parading on our own float. The Krewe acknowledged thier efforts with plaques and a night out for a nice dinner. |

| Float Version 1.1 With the success of the float in it's first parade season, the Float committee decided to expand the float. The float was transferred to a larger platform and remodeled and a porch was added to the front. |
